With its long arch rising 134 m (440 ft) above the glimmering blue waters of Sydney Harbour, the Sydney Harbour Bridge stands as the world's tallest steel-arch bridge. Nicknamed "The Coathanger" by locals, the bridge itself forms an impressive site with a giant steel arch extending from one massive granite-faced pylon to another. It connects downtown Sydney to the North Shore for cars, trains, bicycles, and pedestrians. When you cross it, you'll be rewarded with outstanding views of the Sydney skyline and Sydney Opera House. You can walk across the bridge for free or take the Bridge Climb to the top of the arch if you're feeling adventurous. Sydney Harbour Bridge Reviews
It's Speechless!.. We walked on the Sydney Bridge fm end to end and we saw others climbed up and slowly walked to reach at the point where there is a flag waving on top of the Sydney Bridge. Wow... more »
We didn't do the official bridge climb. Instead, we climbed 200 stairs in one of the pillars to a lookout area. It was one-tenth of the cost of the climb and we felt that it gave us a great view. more »
A must see while in Sydney. There is so much you can do around the bridge. The bridge climb looks quite interesting, thought I did not try it myself. Walking along the bridge is also lovely and free of charge. Walking below the bridge is also nice and even better at night when the space is lit and pretty. Look into the history of the bridge itself, makes for a better understanding of the area.
If you're a visitor to Sydney a walk across the iconic bridge and walk up the southern tower. For only $15 the 360 view is out of this world. I'm a local and every now and again I go up there just for the hell of it. I just love it.
