St. Michael and St. Gudula Cathedral (Cathedrale St-Michel et Ste-Gudule), Brussels

4.6
Dedicated to the patron saints of Brussels, St. Michael and St. Gudula Cathedral (Cathedrale St-Michel et Ste-Gudule) cuts an imposing figure in the historic city center. It is co-cathedral of the Archdiocese of Mechelen-Brussels, along with St. Rumbold's Cathedral in Mechelen. The cathedral's two terraced spires reach 64 m (210 ft) tall and were designed by Jan van Ruysbroeck, the same architect responsible for the tower of the city's town hall. Inside, visit the mausoleums of the dukes of Brabant and Archduke Ernest of Austria. Admire the way the sunlight hits the cathedral's stained-glass windows. The cathedral contains a massive organ with 4,300 pipes. • It is necessary to see. Neo-Gothic style, the décor of the interior raw, I would say very economical, but favorable to the container and prayer. In particular, it is necessary to pay attention to stained glass and pulpit. Abnormal positioning of organs.

  • This church is very beautiful. When you step inside you don’t even feel like you’re in the 21st century. It’s fairly empty in there which is great. If you are religious or/and interested in historical buildings you should definitely visit this place.
  • An amazingly old church. It had a Rubens display as well. The art associated with old religion is something to be admired. The building, the organs, the chapels, all just amazing. Get a local guide to take you through, it adds so much to the experience.
