In Flanders Fields Museum
Delve into the history of World War I and the fighting that took place in Belgium at In Flanders Fields Museum. Named for the famous poem "In Flanders Fields" by Canadian soldier John McCrae, the museum aims to bring the human experience of war to the forefront. The museum is on the second floor of the Cloth Hall, a building that was fittingly destroyed during the war and has been reconstructed. When you arrive, you'll receive a poppy bracelet loaded with four personal stories to guide you through the museum and give a face to the war. Through these individual accounts of life during war, personal items such as diary passages and historical narrative, you'll have the opportunity to see the war as a human experience. In Flanders Fields Museum reviews

Great museum. Sometimes emotionally hard; had to explain to the children the significance of some sections. Covers more than the soldiers, but also the local people. Will return. more »

This museum is in my view easily the best war museum I have ever visited in France and Belgium, WWI and WWII included. A lot of thought went into this place. While there are plenty of displays... more »

Truly fascinating experience. Well worth the €12 fee for the museum and the belfry. Incredible experience, give yourself 2 hours at the very least. Really well done and I found the Yorkshire Trench photos and model particularly interesting having just been there this morning. I have to add, the food and service in the cafe is superb. Very nice and helpful people work in the museum and the cafe

Had a great time here. A great way to start your visit to the area. Combination tickets with Ieper museum are available and the tourist information is next door, you exit through the cafe and tourist info office. Set on the centre of town in a spectacular building. Take advantage of the extra option of climbing the belfry, not only to see the bells and historic building but also the views from the top of the tower. Access to the tower is all done from the wristband you are lent for the duration of your visit which also opens the entrance gates and enables you to interact with displays in your language and personalises some of the interaction.
