Jacques Cousteau declared Great Blue Hole as one of the top ten scuba diving sites in the world, offering spectacular views from both underwater and in the air. This vast submarine sink hole measures over 300 m (984 ft) across and 124 m (407 ft) deep. Divers can examine the enormous limestone stalactites and meet a variety of aquatic inhabitants, including Caribbean reef sharks dwelling in the depths. From dry land, witness a stunning bird's eye view of the hole from one of the scenic flight tours. • A plane ride with Tropic Air from Belize City. The flight lasted 1 hour and 10 minutes, we were only 3 plus the pilot, excellent visibility! We paid €244 per person. It's a little cheaper since Caye Caulker, reduced to 175 if full plane. We fly over the reefs on the edge of the city, then 3 towers above the Blue Hole, it's fantastic !!! The colors are splendid, even if it is an activity that is expensive, we see it really well, unlike the boat where we are above without recoil. Only downside: we did not have a helmet to talk or protect the ears, think about taking earballs!

  • Like so many other reviewers, the Blue Hole dive itself is an artificial disappointing exercise. Slow descent to 130 feet, 8 minutes of bottoms time, slow ascent to 60 feet for a couple of minutes fol...  more »

  • I was in Belize March of 2019 and dived there with Amigos Del Mar. Many people over there in San Pedro will tell you (even fellow divers) that the Blue Hole is not that much of a nice dive. The main reason is because there is hardly any wildlife at all. A few small fish and that's all. But the Blue Hole is not about the wildlife. Snorkeling the Blue hole is not worth it at all, but diving it is amazing. If you are not interested in cave diving this will probably be the closest to cave diving you'll ever do without the dangers that are exclusive to it. You basically go around 40 meters deep and then work you way up slowly while following the edge of the Blue Hole. Again no wildlife at all but the amazing sensation to be flying in a cave. You are basically diving around huge stalactites and stalagmites. Because the Blue Hole was a cave before ending up underwater! Easily one of the nicest experience i have done diving. I recommend it in a heartbeat!!
  • Don't go with high expectations. Its just a hole. Saw one shark and then there's the cave structures which is cool to look at, but that's about it. There are cooler spots in that area however "the aquarium" and "half moon wall". Those are filled with great coral and plenty of sealife, to include rays, eels and reef sharks that are all friendly and curious.
