Trip Planner: Europe / Croatia / Dalmatia / Dubrovnik-Neretva County / Dubrovnik / The Franciscan Church and Monastery
Featuring one of the oldest churches in Dubrovnik, ,The Franciscan Church and Monastery attracts tourists not only for its antique design and historical significance, but also its impressive library and pharmacy. Start off by exploring the mixed Gothic and Renaissance style of the church's interior and exterior. Note the Baroque-style reconstructions, which were added inside during more recent reconstruction. In accordance with the Franciscan rule that outlines taking care of sick members of the order, this church has an attached pharmacy that is quite well-known. It is the third-oldest functioning pharmacy in the world and has been partially transformed into a museum with exhibits about Franciscan medicine and the pharmacy itself. Finish off your visit here with a trip to the attached library, known as one of the richest in Croatia, it boasts an impressive collection of over 70,000 books. Students get in for half price. The Franciscan Church and Monastery Reviews

It is a small part that you visit where you see some paintings and jewelry, and the guide tells a bit of history. It was the first place we visited on the city tour, and then in our free time we entered the church that is part of the complex, which I recommend doing. The Monastery is from the fourteenth century, but suffered much damage in the earthquake of 1667 and had to be rebuilt. At the top of the entrance door to the church are sculptures of the Virgin with Jesus, St. Jerome and St. John the Baptist, who survived the earthquake. The church is very nice, Baroque style. The main altar has 4 twisted columns that are from the eighteenth century. It has several very nice side altars too. The monastery still operates the third oldest pharmacy in the world, of the fourteenth century. I want to comment that beyond the cultural part that was very good, it would be good if the tourism leaders of the city placed public baths at the beginning of the tourist circuit, for example near this Monastery, because we only find rests at the end of the walk after 2 hours of listening to the guide in different places in the city. Although it may seem somewhat superfluous, it is important to enjoy a walk to have toilets at the beginning and end of the journeys that tour guides usually make.
Beautiful and well-preserved monastery from the 14th century. It's a great respite from the hectic streets of Dubrovnik but makes for a quick visit as there is not a whole lot to see. As with many of the museums and attractions in Dubrovnik over the last few years (thanks to price increases), it's probably only worth stopping in if you have a vested interest in the architecture or history of the monastery, or if you have the Dubrovnik card and therefore free admission. I had the card and enjoyed the visit, but don't think it would have been worth the ticket price otherwise.
This hotel is excellent, nice breakfast buffet dinner and lunch, . Nice view of the sea and beach from your room and five minutes walk to the beach .it has everything you need. From the hotel two minutes walk to the bus stop to the old town in fact bus 6
