Mirogoj Cemetery, Zagreb

4.6
Cemetery · Tourist Spot
Mirogoj Cemetery features elaborate arcades, pavilions, and tombs. The architect Hermann Bollé designed the main building in 1876, which was finished in 1929. Admire the entrance, which is overgrown with ivy and looks like a citadel welcoming visitors. Walk the cemetery's lanes and look for the final resting places of many famous Croatians, as well as Austro-Hungarians, and Yugoslavs. The cemetery is also home to many sculptures by famous Croatian artists, such as Ivan Mestrovic and Antun Augustincic. • A really nice place to spend some time when in Zagreb. Even with a rainy weather we had a great time walking through it. The building is stunning and looks beautiful.
  • The cemetery is awesome! I’m not exaggerating when I say it is the most beautiful and impressive building of all Zagreb. You can take the bus 226 from the city centre and it’s only 10-15 minutes. The entrance is free and the cemetery is so big. Not only the building is beautiful but also many of the graves and monuments they have inside.
