Looming above the left bank of the Vltava River, Prague Castle claims status as the largest castle complex in the world. Dating back to the ninth century, the imposing structure occupies nearly 70,000 sq m (753,000 sq ft), its grounds so big they include four churches and four palaces, as well as five different gardens. Once the seat of power for kings of Bohemia and Holy Roman emperors, the castle now serves as the official residence of the country's president. The structure has undergone four major reconstructions since the 12th century, and its blend of architectural styles earned it a spot on the World Heritage List. Prague Castle Reviews
Coming from England I think stereotypical castle but no. Very interesting and worth doing. Maybe get a shot at the cafe make it bit closer to five green thingys more »
Well worth the trek or tram right up the hill for some visual splendour. Views across the city are a delight of their own with Pragues countless spires gracing the horizon. Inside the castle walls..... more »
There is no entry fee, just a security check which is pretty fast. The changing shifts of the guards is very interesting. Inside of this castle are many beautiful buildings. There is even a small Christmas market during December. You have a nice view over the whole city, too.
The castle is situated on the top of a panoramic hill which dominates the city of Prague. The complex is made of buildings surroundings the cathedral that is surprisingly hidden although the towers are visible from all the city. A metal detector check can delay the entrance of the building (max 10/15 minutes) but overall my experience says you can visit the site even if it's peak season. I would say it's more for local people and their history but as a tourist I enjoyed getting to know more of the country by visiting the Castle area.
