Les Gorges du Verdon, Alpes-de-Haute-Provence

One of Europe’s most beautiful canyons, Les Gorges du Verdon is about 25 km (15.5 mi) long and up to 700 m (2,296 ft) deep. The River Verdon, known for its turquoise color, carved out the gorge. At the end of the canyon, the river flows into artificial Lac de Sainte-Croix. Drive around the canyon's rim, rent kayaks, or hike. Rock climbers enjoy the high limestone walls, which are suitable for multi-pitch climbing. Trekkers can choose from 1,500 routes, ranging from 20 m to over 400 m (65 ft to 1,312 ft).
