The Folies Bergère (French pronunciation: [fɔ.li bɛʁ.ʒɛʁ]) is a cabaret music hall, located in Paris, France. Located at 32 rue Richer in the 9th Arrondissement, the Folies Bergère was built as an opera house by the architect Plumeret. It opened on 2 May 1869 as the Folies Trévise, with light entertainment including operettas, comic opera, popular songs, and gymnastics. It became the Folies Bergère on 13 September 1872, named after nearby rue Bergère. The house was at the height of its fame and popularity from the 1890s' Belle Époque through the 1920s.Put Folies-Bergere and other Paris attractions into our Paris trip planning app, and watch your holiday take shape.
Revues featured extravagant costumes, sets and effects, and often nude women. In 1926, Josephine Baker, an African-American expatriate singer, dancer and entertainer, caused a sensation at the Folies Bergère by dancing in a costume consisting of a skirt made of a string of artificial bananas and little else.
The institution is still in business, and is still a strong symbol of French and Parisian life.

Mediocre show, a rip off bar with no food, only M&M and chips 50g bag at 6€, and on top of this, they did not let us out during the 20 min break for fear we (parents) buy for the children food from... more »
The most stunning theatre in Paris. Every time I enter there I get goosebumps. Check the colours of the decoration, flamboyant! Oh and the Folies Bergère was the first cabaret of Europe. Josephine Baker performed there.
A true case of identity confusion It’s got the vibe of a nice French cafe/resto Yet inside it wants to be a night club/ classy restaurant Inside stinks Couches on the night club wanna be side are dirty and smelly For some reason they were playing this night club Spanish music My experience Walked in, one waiter passed me off to another The other told me if I’d like to sit in the back and literally said go Then after 10 min he came back and said that he will help me soon Didn’t see him for the next 20 min So I left For the owner section Come check out the place and see what’s going on Clean the place Have nice waiters and set up a nice system Get rid of the wanna be smelly night club section Trust me on this
