Perhaps one of the most famous and opulent opera houses in the world, Palais Garnier was the setting for the 1910 novel "The Phantom of the Opera,” by Gaston Leroux. When you approach the façade, look up and you'll see the 7.5-m (25-ft) Beaux Arts statue known as L’Harmonie. Today, the opera house primarily produces ballet productions, which you can attend with advance tickets. Admission to an on-site museum, the Bibliothèque-Musée de l'Opéra de Paris (Paris Opera Library-Museum), is included in unaccompanied tours of the opera house building. Be sure to admire the enormous bronze and crystal chandelier in the auditorium. You can dine in the L'Opéra Restaurant. As an architect trained in modern and contemporary architecture I never had any special interest of visiting this place. I went there because my partner took me and I am grateful! Hands down one of the most amazing man-made spaces I’ve ever been to: this hall has the most amazing proportions!... an amazing stop in one of the most incredible cities in the planet: Paris!

Absolutely spectacular! It's worth every Euro spent on visiting this magnificent place. The ticket price will set you back 14 euros and if you want an audio guide then it's another 7 euros. It was like stepping into a time machine taking you back few centuries ago when the elite and affluent could afford finer arts. The majestic grandeur of the opera house is breath taking. The paintings, opera hall, chandeliers, murials, and the obsession with gold paint is impressive.
