The Théâtre des Champs-Élysées (French pronunciation: [teɑtʁ de ʃɑ̃z‿elize]) is an entertainment venue standing at 15 avenue Montaigne in Paris. It is situated near Avenue des Champs-Élysées, from which it takes its name. Its eponymous main hall may seat up to 1,905 people, while the smaller Comédie and Studio des Champs-Élysées above the latter may seat 601 and 230 people respectively.

Commissionned by impresario Gabriel Astruc, the theatre was built from 1911 to 1913 upon the designs of brothers Auguste Perret and Gustave Perret following a scheme by Henry van de Velde, and became the first example of Art Deco architecture in the city. Less than two months after its inauguration, the Théâtre hosted the world premiere of the Ballets Russes' Rite of Spring, which provoked one of the most famous classical music riots.
At present, the theatre shows about three staged opera productions a year, mostly baroque or chamber works more suited to the modest size of its stage and orchestra pit. It also houses an important concert season. It is the home venue of the Orchestre National de France and the Orchestre Lamoureux, and serves as a French base for the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra as well.

  • I have been to this Art Deco theatre many times for performances ranging from opera to dance. But, for budget reasons, I always ended up sitting in the balcony and enduring old, uncomfortable seats...  more »
  • Attended a piano recital there. Very good acoustics (heigth above the podium is more than 15m - sounds HUGE in a positive way) Very well organised: buying tickets, location, food and drinks...  more »

  • With the help of the Paris Tourist Information was directed to buy opera tickets online in March 2018 and was lucky to find them at Theatre Champs Elise. Only cheap seats with poor view of the stage were available. Glad to be there and have time to read the libretto online, so we knew the performers even if not visible from our seats. It was 34F outside and 86F way up inside the theater. It was a great show. Parisians love their operas, interrupt with applause during the middle of a scene. When in Paris do attend any Opera!
  • For such a fancy prices, they could do the place better. But the food was good. Waiters as well always at your service.
