Tour Saint-Jacques, a World Heritage Site, is all that remains of the 16th-century Church of Saint-Jacques-de-la-Boucherie, the meeting place in Paris for pilgrims heading to Santiago de Compestela. Take a guided tour of the Flamboyant Gothic tower, where you can climb the 300 stairs to the top for great views of Paris and some interesting historical information. At the base, notice the statue of Blaise Pascal, a 17th-century scientist and philosopher rumored to have conducted experiments on atmospheric pressure from the top of this tower. • Disappointing. We wanted mainly to see the views from the top of the tower. The only way to get to the top of the tower is to take the guided tour, which costs 10 euros per person. We knew that the tour would be in French, and our French is poor, but we expected to have sufficient time at the top of the tower to compensate. In the event, the total time of the tour was 55 minutes, of which 15 minutes was spent getting up and down the steps, and 30 minutes of talking by the guide in various rooms on the way up. That left only 10 minutes to enjoy the views at the top. Not nearly long enough, and frustrating because the views are spectacular. Only recommended to people with good French and a strong interest in the history of the tower.
  • Stunning. Lots of steps. Tour was only in French when we went. Great views, cool history. A little off the tourist path. Amazing place, highly recommend.
