Offering an alternative way to discover Greek history, Numismatic Museum holds one of the world's largest collections of ancient and modern coins. Over half a million artifacts narrate the history of Athens from the 14th century BCE to the present day. In addition to coins, the museum displays thousands of medals and stamps, which come from various excavation sites in mainland Greece. The Neo-classical building, once a private home of celebrated archaeologist Heinrich Schliemann, remains a major draw for architecture buffs. Spend some of your own modern coins in the shady cafe located in the museum garden. Take the guesswork out of planning a Athens vacation by using our trip itinerary maker.

Numismatic Museum Reviews
Αξίζει να πας μια φορά ... more »I think it is worth the building, which is of particular architecture but also the exterior space with the garden despite the exhibits. At least I wasn't impressed. It's worth going once to see it.
Ο κήπος του νομισματικού μουσείου είναι μια πραγματική όαση στο κέντρο της Αθήνας. Η επίσκεψη στο μουσείο αξίζει πραγματικά. more »The garden of the Monetary museum is a real oasis in the center of Athens. The visit to the museum is really worth it.
What a find! Just strolling along and found this great museum dedicated to historical coins. Very well displayed with great graphics and descriptions in Greek and English. Also it is housed in a wonderfully decorated building. Make sure to look at the ceilings!
Interesting, even if you are not into ancient coins, for both the architecture send general historical information. It's also very cheap as a confirmation with other larger museums. For sure worth a short visit and if it is only to see how Schliemann lived.
