Take in the bustle of the city at Omonia Square, one of the area's oldest squares. Shops, bars, and restaurants line this centrally located plaza. Visit the large fish and vegetable markets for a taste of local life. Keep in mind that many of the shops in this area are closed on Sundays. Be extra vigilant here, as pick-pockets frequent the area. Put Omonia Square into our Athens online trip builder to see other points of interest to visit during your vacation in Athens.

Omonia Square Reviews
No quiero dramatizar. Pero es una zona que en los noventas era muy centrica y turistica, efectivamente los hoteles siguen estando, hay muchisimos. But it is an area that in the Nineties was very centric and tourist, indeed the hotels are still, there are many. The facilities of all those hostels are really bad. In almost all holiday seekers suggest you take hotel or hostel in this area and is that it really is 5m from Syntagma. If you are looking for booking hotels in Syntagma (which is good area) you will get THESE. And they swindle a lot of people because nobody wants to be there. Look at the directions in Google Maps because they sell us cat for Hare. In this square you can only find pickpockets, people who devour you with your eyes thinking that you are money with legs, prostitas and until we get to see people chutandose in the portals. At night we take a taxi because it really is dangerous and gives bad vibes. 1 day we lasted because we changed from hotel to Monastiraki. GUYS SPEND A LITTLE MORE AND ONLY GO TO AREAS LIKE MONASTIRAKI AND SYNTAGMA!!!!!!
There is nothing special about this square. There are better squares, but Omonia is a main hub that many warn you about. I used the subway for 5 days including Omonia station. There is nothing to be a... more »
Heard and read too many negative reviews before visiting this part of Athens. Well those rumours of pimps and druggers are for sure a thing of the past. The authorities have ensured regular and frequent police patrols to support that. So Omonia is certainly as safe as any other city in the world. Head there and make sure you dig into some of the great bakeries in the area!
I don't suggest this area It Is the perfect down town Athens but really very danger place for tourists A lot of drugs and very dangerous people around Be very careful especially after 8pm I am in unpleasant way to declare that the legendary old Omonia square maybe one of the oldest square in the Greek capital is NOT the best place where you should visit!!! If you still want to go.... you are totally responsible for yourself and don't wait for police support There is no police around or if you see poluce (very rare) they just ignore the facts around So sorry for the disappointed review dear visitors
