Ancient Kamiros, Kalavarda

Explore the remains of an ancient civilization dating back nearly 3,000 years. Ancient Kamiros was established by the Dorians but was likely inhabited even earlier by the Achaeans. The ancient town flourished as an agricultural society, producing oil, wine, and figs during the sixth century. The town was abandoned gradually as the residents moved to the nearby city of Rhodes. Stroll the streets and residential areas to imagine what life would have been like in the ancient town. Walk up to the top of the hill to see the acropolis and a covered reservoir, which could supply water for up to 400 families. Enjoy a spectacular view of Rhodes and the sea below. • This site deserves the detour as much for the ruins as for the site which offers a beautiful view of the sea, as often for the remnants of Rhodes. Entrance fee of 12euros
