Trip Planner: Europe / Greece / Peloponnese / Argolis Region / Mycenae / Archaeological Site Mycenae
Take a trip back to the Bronze Age at Archaeological Site Mycenae, one of the world's most significant archaeological sites. Featured on the World Heritage List, the site was once a major military stronghold. The ruins stand on a rugged hill 90 km (55 mi) southwest of Athens. At its peak in the 14th century BCE, the fortress and the surrounding town housed a population of more than 30,000. To see the remains of the palace complex and the famous beehive tombs, purchase a ticket at the main entrance, known as the Lion Gate. The path to the main gate is steep, so wear comfortable shoes and bring plenty of water. Archaeological Site Mycenae is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our , custom trip planner Edition.

Archaeological Site Mycenae reviews
The highlights included the archeological museum, the Lion’s gate leading up to the citadel, and the Atreus treasure tomb. Imbuing the atmosphere of an over 3 millennia old civilization was inspiring. more »

*Warning/please read* We’ve been here a few days ago. We’ve had our car broken into and laptop and passport stolen. We parked on the official parking lot. It was around noon, there was even a snack truck and no signs of breakage. This happened to other visitors as well. There are people who steal from cars at popular historical sights. Do not leave anything valuable in your car! Be careful — it almost ruined our vacation. We were lucky that the police caught the thieves but I’m sure these are not the only people doing this kind of thing. The site itself was pretty but as with most Greek historic sights, it’s mostly a walk-through and look at it from a distance. There aren’t many descriptions at the site itself, so it’s hard to know how what you’re looking at is significant. I would strongly recommend downloading a guide before.
I expected a higher care to the ruins of Mykines after visiting Olympia. However there's not much to see apart from the well-known gate and the marvellous view from the top of the acropolis.
