  • We just stumbled across this church as it was towards the end of the tourist season and it was almost dead quiet. The church has an absolute astonishing history and a must to explore. There is a museu...  more »
  • The official name of the church today is "Ekatontapiliani" (the Virgin Mary of 100 gates), because according to the legend: "Katapoliani has four hundred and nineteen visible doors; the 100th gate is invisible and will appear and open when the Greeks occupy Constantinople"......... Inside: very religious atmosphere (many of the faithful gathered ... ) and the oldest church on the island, transformed into a chapel "the chapel AGIOS NIKOLAOS"

  • This is a superb church that must be visited. Different architectures and historical periods co-exist. It's history is quite complex, though very fascinating, hence the importance of having a guide or a local person walking you through the monument. Even if you are not religious, it's really worth paying a visit to this church. What is also impressive is the cold temperature within the church. So definitely not something to be missed.
  • Very impressive and yet modest church. Dress modestly and visit it even as a place of interest. One of the must see places in Parikoia and very close to the main roundabout. It usually stays open until 9:30pm. There are also tours explaining the history of the church that are really informative but you need to check if they are done in English. At 8:30 pm there is one in Greek.
