Study the ruins of Temple of Poseidon, where the ancient Greeks brought sacrifices to the powerful god of the sea, Neptune. The Doric columns still stand 60 m (200 ft) above the ocean, even in their ruined state. The artifacts harvested from the site, including the Kournos of Sounion, are on display at the Athens National Archeological Museum. Take a guided tour from the entrance or walk the grounds on your own along the trail that leads to the temple. The attraction is visible from all around the peninsula, but the view from the ruins is by far the highlight. Be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes. A visit to Temple of Poseidon represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Sounio trip builder site to plot your vacation.

It is an impressive temple, and the traveller cannot help but feel awe when staring at it. There also are various signs with information, which helps the visitor expand his historical knowledge. Moreover, the view from up there is remarkable!
Amazing 270°+ of picturesque photography options. Highly recommend if you are staying in Athens. May not be worth the trip if you are cruising 1.5 hours from Athens city to get there so round trip will take majority of day.
