Zuiderzeemuseum displays the history of the people who lived along the shore of the Zuiderzee before it transformed into the IJsellmeer. For centuries the Zuiderzee operated as a key shipping port. However, in 1932 the Afsluitdijk, or IJsellmeer Barrier Dam, closed off the saltwater inlet known as Zuiderzee, and turned it into the freshwater lake known as IJsellmeer. The open-air museum covers 6 hectares (15 acres) and presents a way of life that has since disappeared. Explore the small fishing village with authentic buildings from the region, including a church, fish-curing shed, mill, cheese warehouse, shops, and homes. Visit the indoor portion of the museum to see the largest collection of wooden ships in the country, as well as photography and traditional costumes. • Attention, there are two, for the Interior part... extremely difficult to locate & Decevant. Yes, totally disappointed for a theme as strong and important for the Netherlands, or such a book is badly put forward. Museum or there are more spaces dedicated to clothing and modern folk music that has the construction and consequences of the repercussions of the closure of the Zuiderzee. Too bad the entrance ticket of the two museums (inside and outside) is inseparable.

  • Recreation of fishing village, where children can dress up with the costumes of the time and tour the village visiting the bakery, the steam laundry, or the bank! We loved the whole family, and it's definitely a museum to keep from getting lost

  • True reflection of the past. Easily the best heritage museum I have seen. The people here have done the people of the past proud by their maintenance, passion, and organization of this museum. The knowledge shared here is only matched by the atmosphere. It truly felt like visiting the time. Highly suggest taking the ferry to enter here. The smoked herring was absolutely perfect. The restaurant is actually not bad for a cafeteria. Be sure to give yourself a lot of time to explore, as it will draw you in.
  • Super fun place to come, at any age. My girlfriend and I loved exploring the tiny houses and seeing what Dutch living was like in the past. The area it's in is also very pretty, situated right by the water. Making it a beautiful day trip. Definitely worth taking a trip to
