Inside Hoge Veluwe National Park lies Kroller-Muller Museum, a site of modern and contemporary sculpture that houses the second largest exhibit of van Gogh's works in the world. The 30 hectare (75 acre) museum grounds represent one of the largest sculpture gardens in Europe, including oddly shaped or magnified objects from everyday life, and representations of society and nature. Walk through this lush forest, which includes a lake, and then visit the museum to view renowned pieces such as van Gogh's self-portrait and "The Potato Eaters," as well as works by Picasso. Kroller-Muller Museum Reviews
We loved this museum and it is perfect in every way. Nicely designed building. Great modern and contemporary collection with several dozen van Goghs. A beautiful spacious sculpture garden. Great cafe ... more »

Many van Gogh paintings as well as Picasso, Renoir, etc. In the park itself you can rent bicycles with a child seat for free to explore the surrounding area.
The paintings collection is quite impressive; also some of the sculptures and installations inside and outside the museum building are very worthy - and I was generally surprised by the size of the outdoors area (although it's a fairly large complex in general). The downside is crowds - it's surprisingly crowded, and its facilities are not up to demand: not enough lockers, lines to the toilets and cafes, full bike parking. It's not a major downside (especially if you arrive early), but might have been better.
One of the best collections that most tourist won't venture to see. Actually very easy to get to by train and bus from Amsterdam. Use a All Holland off peak pass available from the NS office at Amsterdam Centraal.
