Trip Planner: Europe / Ireland / Province of Leinster / County Dublin / Dublin / National Museum of Ireland - Archaeology
Housing a trove of archeological treasures, National Museum of Ireland - Archaeology displays items unearthed in Ireland as well as items from ancient Egyptian and Roman relics. The museum building, a major tourist attraction in and of itself, features a colonnaded entrance opening into a rotunda, designed to pay homage to ancient Roman architecture. Inside you can explore an extensive collection of prehistorical gold artifacts and metal objects from the Celtic Iron Age. Be sure to visit the second-floor galleries, chronicling the four centuries of Viking rule over Dublin. To discover the exhibits at your own pace and focus on areas most suited to your interests, pick up a floor plan at the entrance, or check online for a free downloadable brochure. Only the ground floor is wheelchair accessible. Closed on Mondays ( including Bank Holidays, Good Friday, and Christmas Day). National Museum of Ireland - Archaeology reviews
Was so informative and interesting. Totally awed by the amount of artifacts displayed so magnificently. It was incredible, appreciate all the hard work that went into it. more »
Absolutely great place for all ages. Free entrance. Huge display of art and separately a military and history section. more »
This museum is just amazing!!! If you like to see objects from basically all over the world and specially from ancient Ireland you have to visit. This time was my second and I am planning to go back. It contains a lots of beautiful antiques from different ages and they are pretty well documented. Once you enter there, your perspective about where we coming from, it would definitely change. Viking section is one of my favourites:), but also Egyptian and more. The entrance is free!!!
Excellent museum. No fee, you can make a donation if you like. The bog men mummies are amazing. There are different expositions from different countries, not only Ireland. It's a great place to bring kids. It can be really busy during the summer but it's never too bad. Absolutely love it.
