Saint Patrick's Cathedral, Dublin

4.2
The resting place of writer Jonathan Swift, Saint Patrick's Cathedral represents the largest church in Ireland. Over a thousand years old, this imposing Gothic structure features a 43 m (140 ft) tall spire, one of the city's major architectural landmarks. Built in honor of Ireland's patron saint, the building stands next to an old well allegedly used by Saint Patrick to baptize converts to Christianity. Pay the small fee to sightsee inside the historical cathedral, which contains fine examples of medieval stained glass and a 4,000-pipe organ, one of Ireland's largest. Check online for a downloadable audio guide and a schedule of daily services, guided tours, and special events. • Interesting visit but a bit pricey in our opinion for the content (€8). No daudioguide or guide, just a leaflet to read at every point advertised.

  • Historic. Timeless. Peaceful. If you enjoy architecture, faith, history, community, art, or simply great skyline views of the city, go here. The self-guided tour can be as in-depth as you want it to be. The baroque style of this unique London icon continues to marvel and captivate tourists and locals alike. Pro-tips: book online in advance to save a few £££. Also, wear comfy shoes to be able to climb the hundreds of spiraling stairs to the top of the dome.
  • Cool, big, old church. Tallest church (not cathedral) in Ireland with a 141 foot high spire. Founded in 1191. Entrance fee was a little steep for a self-guided tour of 8€ for adults, 7€ for students. Worth stopping to pay respects to St Patrick (even if from the outside, to save on entrance fee). Beautiful grounds to sit and enjoy. Small playground for kids to burn off some energy.
