Saint Patrick's Cathedral, Dublin

4.2
Architectural Building · Religious Site
The resting place of writer Jonathan Swift, Saint Patrick's Cathedral represents the largest church in Ireland. Over a thousand years old, this imposing Gothic structure features a 43 m (140 ft) tall spire, one of the city's major architectural landmarks. Built in honor of Ireland's patron saint, the building stands next to an old well allegedly used by Saint Patrick to baptize converts to Christianity. Pay the small fee to sightsee inside the historical cathedral, which contains fine examples of medieval stained glass and a 4,000-pipe organ, one of Ireland's largest. • A lovely place to visit when the rains bickering down in Dublin - escape in to St Patrick’s cathedral and get lost in its history. On the day we visited we were lucky to have arrived when an organ.....  more »
  • Really enjoyed walking round the cathedral on our last day in Dublin. There’s lots of information on the cathedrals history and how it still operates today. Well worth the €8 entry.  more »

  • Spent a lovely and peaceful hour just wandering around St Patrick's Cathedral. The history of the cathedral is fascinating and it was very calming after spending time thinking about my Dad. The stained glass windows are magnificent and the ceiling is a marvel. Well worth a visit, there was construction work going on outside but all necessary and doesn't distract too much from the beauty of the setting.
  • An incredible Cathedral that is a must visit. Beware of the strict opening hours and prepare for the entrance fee. The Cathedral is arranged to entertain its guests with plenty to read and interactive exhibiting elements. It's great if you like the classic modern museum experience, but it might a bit disturbing if you simply just want to admire the gorgeous architecture.
