Trip Planner: Europe / Portugal / Central Portugal / Castelo Branco District / Fundao / Serra da Gardunha
The Gardunha mountain range, so called by the Moors, is located in central Portugal, in Centro Region, beyond the Serra da Estrela range, giving way to an extensive plain called Cova da Beira. It was covered with vineyards in the time of King Dinis, who reigned in the 13th and 14th centuries. But the sovereign decided to pull them up and replace them with chestnut trees all over the Alcambar valley. The valley became known as the King's groves. Unfortunately though, due to man's negligence, violent fires destroyed a significant number of trees, although some areas were reforested. Pirâmide, is the highest point in Gardunha mountain range.Plan your visit to Serra da Gardunha and a wealth of other attractions, well-known and undiscovered, using our Fundao vacation planner.

You may have certain hiking trails from Soalheira (the north side). On that side are more sheltered places for the birds seems to me. At least I saw a blue heron and some storks, but it was a silent intent. The reservoir is beautiful as well as some villages in the region, such as Castelo Novo. But around the lake it is in any case an oasis of peace and quiet. Beautiful. The Serra da Gardunha is a large area, a huge valley in fact, south of the Serra de Estrella where besides waterfowl there is much more to experience.
Recomendo a visita a esta serra uma verdadeira pérola da beira. A riqueza da paisagem da fauna e da flora. more »I recommend the visit to this saw a true pearl of the border. The richness of the landscape of fauna and flora.
For those who want to see the cherry blossoms in bloom and the right place. There are many huge new plantations that will be beautiful in a few years, too. Do not go on the main roads, there are charms hidden in the meui of the villages.
