Big waves and wide sandy swaths make Praia da Nazare one of the most popular spots along the country's Atlantic coastline. Due to its geography and strong ocean currents, this beach often sees monster breakers in excess of 20 m (78 ft), a huge draw for some of the world's top surfers. In addition to record-breaking waves, the beach offers easy access to the nearby town of Nazare, a busy tourist resort packed with trendy shops and award-winning seafood restaurants. The current is extremely strong here, even on calm days, so watch out for the really big swells, and keep an eye on the weakest swimmers in your party. One of my favorite beaches. What a delightful combination, the sand, the sea, the shops and the restaurants... Fresh fish is a delight. It is worth visiting and spending some time around.
We visited Portugal from the US. After a few days in Lisbon we decided to stop at Nazare due to a local cab driver's recomendation. Glad we did. Nazare is a lesser known hidden treasure. We decided to replace going to Largos with something in the direction of Puerto. Glad we did. The food is good and the scenery is breath taking. Stayed in a beachfront room and we had a great time. Absolutely stunning sunset.
