Tserkov' Uspeniya Presvyatoy Bogoroditsy V Novodevich'yem Monastyre, Moscow

4.5
A World Heritage Site, Tserkov' Uspeniya Presvyatoy Bogoroditsy V Novodevich'yem Monastyre counts among Moscow's top cultural attractions. The convent grounds include a majestic five-domed cathedral, built in the early 16th century. The cathedral's lofty ground floor, typical of religious structures built on the orders of Ivan the Terrible, contains some of the country's finest frescoes, as well as a large gilded iconostasis. The complex also includes a six-tier bell tower, which was the tallest structure in 18th-century Moscow. The monastic cemetery, long coveted by prominent Muscovites as a prestigious place of burial, contains the tombs of writers Anton Chekov and Nikolai Gogol. • This beautiful monastery you visit for a tannery. It is now under construction, but you can still visit it. Cover your head as a woman when you want to enter the church. Special to see how one lived the faith. Also, cross the water for a nice view of the monastery.

  • There are many famous Russian figures. I like airplanes and music, so I visited the graves of Sukhoi, Mikoyan (the founder of Mig), Tupolev, Ilyushin, Kamov, astronaut Titov, pianist Richter and Rostropovich. However, as with other cemeteries, if you don't find out where the tomb you want to be on the Net in advance, you'll be walking in vain. (The location and name of the cemetery are on the net) Because it is Russia, it is also necessary to be able to read Cyrillic characters. If you're a classical music fan, the lake on the north side is a must-see. Tchaikovsky is said to have gone through the concept of the song "Swan Lake" here.
