Tower of Hercules (Torre de Hercules), La Coruna

4.6
Overlooking the north Atlantic coast, Tower of Hercules (Torre de Hercules) is an intact Roman lighthouse with mythical origins. According to legend, Hercules killed the giant Geryon and buried his head where the tower now stands, then ordered a city to be built atop the site. Whatever its true beginnings, it is thought to be the oldest lighthouse still in use in the world and a landmark of Spanish history. Take a tower tour and visit the museum to learn more about its construction. On either end of the bike path along the boardwalk you'll find rental bikes. • Very interesting monument. If you feel well you can go up the more than 200 steps of the tower. Really nice sightseeing of A Coruña from the top. Do not forget to buy your tickets at the bottom of the area. They are not sold in the basement of the tower so you have to come back again
  • Great place to visit and the view is absolutely beautiful - make sure to buy tickets to the tower BEFORE walking up to the structure you can find the ticket office in the parking lot it is 3 euros per person which I found pretty reasonable. While you do need to walk up to the top of the tower the climb isn't bad at all and the flights of steps are broken up into levels with interesting information about the lighthouse between flights of steps. Pictures give some idea of the view
