Built in 1913 and massively renovated in 2009, Mercado San Miguel attracts visitors with its famous tapas, though there’s much more to try here, from fine caviar to delicious chocolate snacks. This indoor market is part culinary tourist attraction, part cultural center, located in the very heart of the city. Whether you’re looking to buy something specific or just browsing the tempting stalls, it’s worth a stop for the sights and smells of dried ham, fine wine, baked goodies, and other treats offered by the vendors. The entrance is easily identifiable by its ornate iron posts. Discover how to plan a Madrid trip in just a few steps with Inspirock's itinerary builder.

This place is almost always packed. When ever we visit Madrid (wife is Spaniard from Madrid) we normally come here at least once. It is normally full of tourists, but they have managed to keep the food authentic and reasonably priced. Even our local family members like to come here regularly. Even though there is always a crowd, the stalls do a great job of serving people quickly. We have never had to wait for either our food or a place to eat it. Great place to grab a drink and some tapas. All kind of choices for what ever type of food you want from cold to hot and sweet to savory. In addition to this the place is a beautiful old building and they work hard to keep it clean. The biggest drawback is that it is not insulated and gets rather cold in the winter. They have some space heaters that are nice, but there are areas that are missed and are like iceboxes. Highly recommended.
Great place to stop for a wide variety of Spanish tapas food but quite busy even in late morning. Everything tastes even better than its exquisite looks and is quite affordable. Service is friendly, quick, and efficient. Everyone who served us spoke excellent English.
