#1 of 40 in Nature in Tenerife
Climb to Spain’s highest peak at Mount Teide. Sitting at an altitude of 3,718 meters (12,198 feet), the volcano and its surroundings make up the 18,900-hectare (46,720-acre) Teide National Park: a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the most visited wonder in Spain. Hike the dry lava terrain of the volcano and enjoy sprawling views of the Tenerife shoreline before winding back down through the scenic park. While the summit is accessible by bus, it’s best to bring a car to take advantage of the many hiking options and viewpoints. Our Tenerife route planner makes visiting Mount Teide and other Tenerife attractions simple, and helps you make a travel plan personal to you.

  • I started in the morning with the sunrise at the parking lot at Montaa Blanca (kilometer point 40.7 of the main road TF-21). The ascent is at its finest in terms of landscape. I was travelling with hiking boots and equipment as well as a day backpack with a lot of liquid. There is no way to replenish on the way. Conditionally, I was fine up to 3000m. From then on, it was the pure fight against the height. At the top station of the cable car I paused for 15 minutes and then left for the summit. Arriving at the top, I briefly enjoyed the view in the sulphur air and then descended to the mountain station of the cable car. Due to the clear symptoms of severe headaches, mild nausea and little air, I took the cable car into the valley. At the bottom, I was fine again. 45 minutes walk back to the parking lot and a very nice adventure was over. Tip: The landscape is really very worth seeing. Not only take the cable car to the summit - above it is a "normal" mountain (volcano). There are also hiking trails that do not go to the summit and where the great landscape is much more beautiful than at the mountain station.

  • One of the unique landscape all around this active volcano. Visit this place with car, and don’t miss to visit both in day and night. In days you can see magnificent view of red melted lava all around place giving the feeling of planet mars and in night clear sky make great view of stars. Must visit this island when visiting canary island. P.S. temperature on this place can dramatically change from very hot in day to chill in night.
  • Will never forget the experience. Would have been great if whole had the whole day up there getting to the summit. Well done Spain!
