Built in the 16th Century, Drottningholm Palace serves as the private home of the Swedish royal family. Doubling as a popular tourist attraction, the palace treats visitors to an important lesson about history and architecture. A summer holiday home in the 18th century, the structure is now the royal family's primary residence and the best-preserved palace in the country. Drottningholm Palace Reviews
Arrivée par le bateau, depuis Stockholm (billet combiné trajet + visite achetable à l’embarcadère, en face de l’hôtel de ville, ou sur internet la veille nous concernant). We took the first boat of the day (10am) - be careful because, although at the end of the summer, this one was full and seating not available to everyone. The journey takes 1 hour and the arrival on site is very beautiful. We started with the French gardens so as not to find ourselves in the castle with the whole boat at the same time. A half hours spent (which was enough for these gardens), we entered the castle. Not everything is visitable, but what you can see is pleasant. Visit the castle in 1 hour. We didn't visit the theater or the Chinese pavilion (high rates for the echoes we had), and 2 hours on site were enough. Honestly, castle to do if you really have the time - I don't think it's worth sacrificing a day in Stockholm to visit it, unless you're attracted to an extra 2 hours by boat or you don't know Versailles or Schonbrunn

The great balance of the visit is the gigantic green area and you can see that inspiration comes from Versaille.
Incredibly beautiful french inspired building outside the city. The park is so nice for a long relaxing walk. There is also a Chinese pagoda: nothing special but good to walk around. The place is like 20 minutes from the center by public transport, highly recommended a visit to escape the city kind of atmosphere.
I wasn't particularly impressed by the palace. The exterior is quite nice but the interior was all done at once and is a bit second-rate. The Chinese Pavilion was well worth going to see, for the Chinese mirror paintings mainly. The Theatre was also worth it and there was a good guide. It's a nice trip to do on the boat.
