Enter a storyland of children's literature at Junibacken, a museum devoted to famous works for kids, especially those of Astrid Lindgren, who wrote "Pippi Longstocking." This children's museum was opened in 1996 and is one of the city's most-visited sites. In addition to its permanent exhibits dedicated to authors and illustrators, it houses a theater, restaurant, and temporary displays. Seek out the interactive exhibits, like the storybook square, where each house represents a different Swedish children's writer, or the train ride ending at the home of Lindgren's most famous character--Pippi Longstocking. • I had read the reviews of this museum saying that it was more geared towards younger children, but with a morning to fill before visiting Gronalund I decided to take my nine year old along. This was a...  more »
  • The museum is geared to tourists visiting only Stockholm. Family Amusement Park, but the attention of children 6-8 Summer is the upper limit of age. Older ones may get bored. Interesting to show the modern Swedish children's literature, but does not die to Astrid Lindgren Varld in Vimmerby (who was there, here will be disappointed).

  • We LOVE this children's museum! The exhibits are well done, and the ride is lovely (although some parts can be a bit scary for little ones). The entry fee is a bit pricey so it's worth getting a year pass if you plan on going more than twice.
  • Lovely place to visit with pre-teen children. Some fun play rooms and areas. We specially liked the story train that is available in multiple languages. There are lockers where you can keep your stuff. Ticket allows you to reenter so you can go out to eat or have picnic if your stay longer. The plays are only in Swedish but if your kids know the story, then it is still interesting to watch.
