Contained within the royal palace, Royal Armory represents the country's oldest museum and houses a vast collection of objects and artifacts from Swedish military and royalty history. King Gustavus Adolphus founded the museum in 1628 to preserve his costumes from a campaign in Poland. Since then, thousands of items have been added to this impressive collection. You'll experience Swedish history through the remnants of the country’s past, including belongings of kings and queens dating back to the 15th century. The site houses 17th-century coaches, robes from royal weddings, and blood-stained attire from historic battles, such as the tunic that Gustav II Adolph was wearing when he was killed. Royal Armory Reviews
Vi var ett gäng värmlänningar som rest till kungliga huvudstaden för kulturell skolning. När vi var där var bara vagnhallen öppen. Med bara menar jag absolut inte att det är något dåligt. Kröningsvagn... more »We were a bunch of värmlanders who travelled to the royal capital for cultural training. When we were there, only the wagon hall was open. By only I mean absolutely not that it is something bad. The Coronation wagon was ordered 1696 by Karl XI. It was delivered in 7 packages from France. Was first assembled two years later. Absolutely wonderful work in walnut. The museum is in the Castle Hill cool and Nice in the summer. Well worth a visit. There is much else in the vicinity of the royal palace to see. On the other side of the Power Bridge, the amphibious buses oceanbus the tour both on land and in the water. As I said, there is much to see here.
Tof museum met mooie exposities. Toen stonden er oa koetsen van de koninklijke familie. Bovendien is het gratis! more »Great museum with beautiful expositions. Then there were coaches of the royal family. Moreover, it is free!
Sadly, the Armory part was closed for renovations, but we were able to see a very interesting exhibit of the carriages used by the Swedish Royals over many hundreds of years. They were remarkably preserved and beautiful! There was also a few original dresses worn by previous queens, one suit of armor and an example of what men wore.
Small but impressive exhibition mostly with the royal carriages. Entrance for free. Has toilets and a small shop through which you enter the exhibition! The exhibition itself is underground with little light. A bit chill.
