On the 7th (Wed), step into the grandiose world of Edinburgh Castle. Keep things going the next day: steep yourself in history at Inchcolm Abbey and Island, then explore the historical opulence of Craigmillar Castle, then learn more about the world around you at National Museum of Scotland, and finally take in the spiritual surroundings of Holyrood Abbey.

Fort William is the second largest settlement in the Highlands of Scotland with around 10,000 inhabitants – and the largest town: only the city of Inverness is larger.Fort William is a major tourist centre, with Glen Coe just to the south, Aonach Mòr to the east and Glenfinnan to the west, on the Road to the Isles. On the 10th (Sat), steep yourself in history at Glenfinnan Viaduct, then take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Nevis Range Mountain Resort, and then take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Ben Nevis.
