In many ways the most modern of Italian cities, Milan is a busy, elegant metropolis with an impressive list of grand palaces, fine churches, and important museums.
Kick off your visit on the 7th (Sun): don't miss a visit to Piazza del Duomo. Here are some ideas for day two: examine the collection at Castello Sforzesco, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Duomo di Milano, then identify plant and animal life at Oasi di Sant'Alessio, then take in the architecture and atmosphere at Basilica San Michele Maggiore, and finally take in the spiritual surroundings of Chiesa di Santa Maria presso San Satiro.

On the 10th (Wed), pause for some serene contemplation at San Giorgio Maggiore, take in the spiritual surroundings of Scuola Grande di San Rocco, explore the world behind art at Peggy Guggenheim Collection, then pause for some serene contemplation at Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute, then take in the views from Ponte dei Sospiri, and finally take in the architecture and atmosphere at Basilica Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari. Keep things going the next day: admire the landmark architecture of Basilica di San Marco, see the interesting displays at Doge's Palace, and then don't miss a visit to St. Mark's Square.
