Little more than a small town at the turn of the 20th century, Dushanbe grew rapidly during the Soviet era and now serves as the national capital and home to nearly 800,000 people.
Take a break from Dushanbe with a short trip to Hisor Fortress in Hisor, about 42 minutes away. There's lots more to do: stroll around Rudaki Park, don't miss a visit to Flagpole with the Flag of Tajikistan, get engrossed in the history at National Museum of Tajikistan, and appreciate the history behind Statue of Ismoil Somoni.

If you are flying in from Pakistan, the closest major airport is Qurghonteppa International Airport. In August in Dushanbe, expect temperatures between 42°C during the day and 19°C at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 8th (Thu) so you can travel back home.
