In many ways the most modern of Italian cities, Milan is a busy, elegant metropolis with an impressive list of grand palaces, fine churches, and important museums.
Change things up with these side-trips from Milan: Turin (Museo Nazionale del Cinema & Museo Egizio) and La Citta Alta (in Bergamo). There's still lots to do: contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Duomo di Milano, admire the masterpieces at Pinacoteca Ambrosiana, pause for some serene contemplation at Basilica San Lorenzo Maggiore, and step into the grandiose world of Castello Sforzesco.
