Skiing enthusiasts traveling in Japan should consider a trip to Hakuba-mura: tucked away in the Northern Alps, this village hosted several competitions during the Nagano 1998 Winter Olympics.
Get a sense of the local culture at Togakushi Jinja Hokosha and Anrakuji Temple. Popular historic sites such as Matsushiro and Himegawa Headwaters Natural Garden are in your itinerary. Get out of town with these interesting Hakuba-mura side-trips: Nagano (Sanada House & Togakushi Folk Museum Togakushi Ninja Museum). And it doesn't end there: fly down the slopes at Hakuba Goryu Ski Resort / Alpine Garden, cruise along Shirasawa Tunnel, hike along Hakuba Daisekkei Trail, and head outdoors with Hakuba Happoone Ski Resort.

Tokyo to Hakuba-mura is an approximately 3-hour combination of train and bus. You can also drive; or take a bus. Traveling from Tokyo in March, expect Hakuba-mura to be slightly colder, temps between 50°F and 37°F. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 25th (Wed) so you can go by car to Ise.

Plan for a bit warmer nights when traveling from Hakuba-mura in March since evenings lows in Ise dip to 49°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 27th (Fri) so you can drive to Nachikatsura-cho.
