Hierapolis, Pamukkale

4.6
Explore ancient thermal spas and take a dip yourself at Hierapolis, a World Heritage Site. Originally a thermal spa in 2nd century BCE, the Greek ruins of baths, temples, and monuments are still visible today at Hierapolis. Visit the on-site Hierapolis Archaeology Museum to see tombs, monuments, and ruined theatre artifacts. Nearby Pamukkale is a diverse arrangement of hot springs--some for swimming and some for scenic appreciation. One notable area, sometimes referred to as Cleopatra's swimming pool, features a set of tiered travertines on top of which bright aquamarine water gathers. • The white travertines greet you when you reach Denizli Pamukkale. From the traverteners you can walk up through the chalky waters and behold the Hierapolis... Museum, theatre, church Agora, temples, shrines, Cleopatra Pool, Bridge, Necropolis, Hamam, Gymnasium... The magnificent works at the museum exhibit. It is believed that the Apostis were killed in the Philippus flour there, and hence a tired exhausted church attributed to it. You can go to the Cleopatra pool, just look at the baths, travertins and wander around the culture.

  • Oh my ancient holy city, this place is AWESOME! I hope you get the chance to be here for hours and roam around like I did, not be herded like the masses. Utterly enchanting. Views to die for. Be in an imaginarium. The biggest and best amphitheatre I’ve ever been in. The little museum is interesting and worth the TL7 entry.
  • Love the history and information given. Accessible sites and walking easy. Pools were beautiful although not all full at time of visit.
