Trip Planner: Europe / UK / Scotland / Ayrshire / South Ayrshire / Ayr / Robert Burns Birthplace Museum
Learn about Scotland's most famous bard at Robert Burns Birthplace Museum. The museum holds the world's most important Burns collection, containing more than 5,500 manuscripts, books, personal artifacts, correspondence, and artwork relating to Burns. Visit the cottage that was the birthplace of Scotland's favorite son. The two-roomed clay and thatch cottage, built in 1759, gives you a true sense of life in 18th-century Scotland. The restaurant and cafe feature traditional Scottish food. The museum is wheelchair accessible, but there's a bit of a walk between the outdoor exhibits. Far better than I expected it to be! We really enjoyed this. There's plenty for the kids to interact with and they may even learn something too. Fairly accessible throughout although the addition of a Changing Places toilet would be fantastic and we could have spent longer.
Wow! What a great find. The museum was very thoughtfully constructed and curated. My family and I thoroughly enjoyed this unexpected gem. Many artifacts from Burns' life, and his story was told in a captivating way. Well worth the admission.
