Antony Gormley's Another Place provides a profound setting for modern sculptures. The installation features 100 cast-iron figures each 189 cm (74 in) tall and weighing about 650 kg (1,400 lb), spread out over an area of beach 3.2 km (2 mi) long. It evokes both the sadness of leaving and the hopeful expectation associated with emigration. All of the sculptures resemble the artist who created them, Antony Gormley. They stand facing the water, stretching nearly 1 km (.63 mi) out to sea. Time your visit with the tide schedule; high tide submerges many of the sculptures and might not be the best time for a viewing. Sunset is ideal so long as the tide isn't fully in. Antony Gormley's Another Place is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our , world travel planner Edition.

  • The statues are worth going to see, there is also a promenade to walk along, if you do not want sand between your toes. One of our best attractions in Liverpool.  more »

  • Already worth a visit in its own rite, Crosby beach hosts Another Place, an installation by Anthony Gormley. The 100 or so statues add a strangely romantic element to the huge vista here. Its marvellous to walk along the beach in both directions and in pretty much any weather, there is a tarmacced walk along the strand at the foot of sand dunes so access is all weather and good for everyone.
  • Easy to reach from the train station, this beach with the surprising iron men on it was very worth visiting. There were plenty of ships passing by and the art installation was great to look at.
