Oliver Cromwell's House in Ely, Cambridgeshire, England was the family home of Oliver Cromwell. The kitchen dates from around 1215, other parts being built later. In 1988, it was bought by the local council, and has been refurbished to show how it may have looked during Cromwell's lifetime.
The former Lord Protector's family home is his only residence still in existence other than Hampton Court. Following a recent refurbishment the House now has a completely re-vamped Civil War exhibition with interactive displays and interpretations. There is also a timeline and family tree.

  • We arrived around 12 and the Oliver Cromwell House was not very busy. One of the best museums we have been to in ages. Interesting displays and detailed audio. It captured your imagination and I partially found the voting system fun. Was Cromwell a good or bad guy. We would have stayed longer but there seemed to be a shortage of oxygen. Mind you it was a very hot day,80Ff. I would recommend The Oliver Cromwell House to anyone visiting Ely. It was one of the highlights of the day.
  • Excellent museum to visit. The audio system enabled my daughter to get a good understanding of the life n times of this period of history. Museums for us are quite challenging with a daughter with a disability but a big thbs up to you for implementing this facility. A family friendly museum too. The kids will love playing the games with the old fashioned toys plus dressing up too. Stayed a good 2 and half hours.
