#7 of 7 in Historic Sites in Keswick
Holy Trinity Church is located to the east of the village of Colton, Cumbria, England. It is an active Anglican parish church in the deanery of Furness, the archdeaconry of Westmorland and Furness, and the diocese of Carlisle. Its benefice has been united with those of St Mary the Virgin, Egton-cum-Newland, and St Luke, Lowick. The church is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II listed building.
The church dates from 1578, the year in which it was consecrated. The tower was built in the early part of the 17th century. Holy Trinity became a parish church in 1676, and in 1721 a north transept was added. In 1762 a vestry was built. The church was restored by the Lancaster architects Paley, Austin and Paley in 1890.
ExteriorHoly Trinity is constructed in roughcast stone, with ashlar dressings and a slate roof. Its plan consists of a five-bay nave and chancel in one range, a north transept, a north vestry, and a west tower. The tower contains a small square west window above which are two round-headed windows. The bell openings are plain and straight-headed with louvres. At the summit is an embattled parapet.

  • Grange is a waterside beautiful village. There are two roads through which you can get to Grange . From Borrowdale road through a bridge you get to Grange. The church is right there next to the river....  more »
  • A beautiful , almost austere, interior, with the end walls painted with a mural of the 10 commandments.  more »
  • Beautiful small Church! As a wedding photographer I thoroughly enjoyed photographing a wedding here in the summer of 2018 - the Vicar was also a great asset to the Church, injecting some character and personality into the service - and keeping things fun and up-tempo, something which doesn't happen often! Stunning Church photography wise too!
  • This church is larger than that which is located next to the bridge, is also more beautiful on the outside. The cross that you see in the photos is a memorial to the fallen who fought for his country in the first world war, which called great war as it reads on the cross, since no one ever thought that another conflict of that magnitude could occur
