  • We went as a group of 10 people. There was plenty of parking. We had a good cup of coffee in the entrance cafe and after our visit we had lunch in the house cafe. The lunch was quite good but many meals contained garlic puree to which one of our party is seriously allergic and as a result she had to leave the building. We went on a guided red squirrel tour which was enjoyable and informative. We saw about 3 squirrels. There is a walk of about 400 metres to the house. The house is undergoing major refurbishment at present so most rooms were at least partly under wraps which restricted the enjoyment. The terraced Italianate garden was lovely and worth the visit. The staff were friendly and helpful. We are all National Trust members which meant it was good value. Remember to check opening times and prices before visiting.
  • Beautiful location and picturesque gardens. Red squirrels are still seen in the woodlands. The house interior is currently undergoing important restoration so some of the rooms are partially covered or closed. The work will take 2.5 years! But the amazing whistler painting is still fully accessible. Worth a visit
