Where we are:

Its pretty difficult to find us at the moment with the building works at Blackfriars and at the Tate, but we’re still here and open seven days a week.

Our entrance faces the Thames, so if you are coming along the Thames footpath diversion from the west, look out for the Bankside signs on Hopton Street and go through the archway. Turn right and you’ll spot the entrance. From the east head past Tate Modern and we’re down the steps on the left.

For artists or buyers collecting works from the Gallery, limited parking is available in Hopton Street for loading and unloading only.

Our societies:

The Royal Watercolour Society represents the finest watercolour painting in Britain; it is the oldest watercolour society in the world, established in 1804, and is second only to the Royal Academy of Art in importance as an art society.

The Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers (RE) was founded as the Society of Painter Etchers and Engravers in 1880, in order to counter the Royal Academy’s then refusal to recognise printmaking as a creative, rather than reproductive, art.

The Society has had many distinguished Members such as Walter Sickert, August Rodin, Dame Laura Knight, Graham Sutherland and Michael Rothenstein.

  • Lovely visit to see the wood engraving exhibition. It's brilliant and there was an artist working there to show her techniques. thanks! It's also free and beautifully presented. Well worth a visit.  more »

  • I always try to call into Bankside Gallery when I'm in this area of London, whether visiting Tate Modern or not. It is the home of the Royal Watercolour Society and the Royal Society of Painter Printmakers. There is art that you can buy and take with you, a good little book shop and they frequently have special events when the artists are also present. Workshops are also available for budding artists. I think it's a real gem and if you love art you should drop by. If on the first occasion you don't find anything to your liking, try again next time. It's ever changing.
  • Small, friendly gallery, that allows you to wander round without hassling you. You can usually buy an exhibit and take it away with you. Exhibitions last a couple of weeks, so its constantly changing. There's a small shop within the complex that sell books, cards and prints. And other original works are available for sale in display folders. Overall, much better than the Tate gallery next door, and you don't need to walk so far.
