Discover Children’s Story Centre is the UK’s first hands-on creative literacy centre for children aged 0-11 years and their families, carers and teachers.

At the heart of the centre, our purpose-built Story World and Story Garden are creative play spaces designed to inspire children’s curiosity and imagination. Our team of dedicated Story Builders guide children and families through the space and encourage them to create their own stories for Hootah, our resident baby space alien, to send back to his planet Squiggly Diggly, which has run out of imagination.

Changing once every six months to a year, our interactive exhibitions immerse families in the world of their favourite authors, from Oliver Jeffers to Michael Rosen and Dr. Seuss. Throughout the year we invite much-loved and up-and-coming authors, illustrators, poets, musicians, artists and storytellers to run exciting workshops. We want to help improve reading, writing, speaking and listening skills for children in fun and imaginative ways. Each year over 100,000 people benefit from our programmes.

Discover is a registered charity, all proceeds go directly into delivering high quality innovative work for children and families in east London.

  • We went with our daughter thinking it would be a story museum, but it's just a room. We thought there was something else and when we walked into another piece wrongly a young staff girl was very rude. The shop is small and disappointing. I do not recommend it at all, maybe it is entertaining to go as a school course, but not as a family walk.

  • We went for the Julia Donaldson experience,we had a great time and the staff made the experience great. The lady doing the reading and the Julia part was wonderful and very enjoyable. Our daughter loved it. Our daughter hurt herself while there and staff we’re great with her.
  • Waste of money. Adults really should not be charged. Not enough for the kids to do unless you book additional activities at the main front desk. Wasn't asked anything at the main desk just for payment. Extra information should be put up at entrance. I only went because of all the good ( surprisingly ) reviews.
