Green Park, London

4.4
#13 of 183 in Parks in London
Spanning over 16 hectares (40 acres) of mature trees and grassland next to Buckingham Palace, Green Park is a peaceful oasis in the heart of London. Enjoy a pleasant stroll or relax on a picnic blanket and watch the world go by. Unusual for a Royal Park, Green Park has no formal flowerbeds. One possible explanation is that Catherine of Braganza, wife to King Charles II, discovered that Charles had picked flowers in the park for another woman. Scorned, the Queen ordered that every single flower in the park should be pulled up and no more planted. In recent years, the park has become a place to remember those who served in the two World Wars, with several monuments situated around the park. • One of London's great parks, lovely on a summer's day just to chill out. Good to see the green parakeets making a comeback and they'll happily eat from your hand if you're baring fresh fruit. Well worth a visit.
