Millennium Bridge, London

4.3
#110 of 3,736 in Things to do in London
See some of the city’s major landmarks from the iconic Millennium Bridge, built to mark the millennium and quickly nicknamed the "Wobbly Bridge" after some pedestrians felt an unexpected swaying motion days after it originally opened for foot traffic. Extensively modified to remove the wobbling, the steel suspension bridge re-opened in 2002, connecting the City of London with the Tate Gallery in Bankside. The bridge’s alignment offers a clear view of St. Paul’s Cathedral’s south façade, framed by the bridge supports. Take a walk across the River Thames in the evening hours to take photos of the New Globe Theater, Tate Modern, and St. Paul’s Cathedral, with the nighttime cityscape providing a memorable backdrop. • Suspension bridge entirely pedestrian. Recommended after a visit to Tate Modern, on the south shore, heading towards St Paul. You slowly approach the dome on St Paul's and you can see Tower Bridge in the distance.

  • Really wonderfully engineered bridge with a great vantage point for looking around London and some wonderful photo opportunities.  more »

  • Spectacular view along to St Paul's, got to be one of the best views on London when the sun starts to set. Great and iconic views on either direction up and down the Thames. Tate at the end is an experience too. Always busy with people admiring the scenery and the music from the south bank gives it an almost party festival.
  • Not exactly much to do here but it does have a very very beautiful view. Nearby food places and bars. Lovely for a quick photo opportunity. I would recommend going for a view of the Tate On the south bank right as you come off the bridge. Beautiful free gallery and then you can head up to The viewing tower on the top floor for amazing views all for free!
