Despite its outward appearance, Manchester Cathedral is one of oldest churches in Europe with roots established around 700 CE. Hidden pieces of art give it a whimsical feel. For example, check out the quire stalls, which have hinged seats that you’re welcome to lift gently. Directly underneath are carvings of medieval morality tales. In one, a woman scolds a man for breaking a cooking pot; another depicts men playing table games. Call the church office before visiting to ensure there are not any conflicting events. Manchester Cathedral Reviews
Heel groot is de kathedraal niet, maar ze is het bezoeken wel waard : de indeling is niet alledaags en er hangen prachtige glasramen. more »The cathedral is not very large, but it is worth a visit: The layout is not commonplace and there are beautiful stained glass windows.
À visiter, le samedi il y avait un marché vintage à l’intérieur , truc bizarre pour nous français mais franchement génial. more »To visit, on Saturday there was a vintage market inside, weird thing for us French but frankly awesome.
Attended the gin & rum festival at the Cathedral. The building is a fabulous venue for an event, high, spacious and with beautiful stained glass windows, it provided a superb backdrop. The event was good, too. A wide variety of gins and rums at sensible prices which included mixers. Good music from a DJ and a band with dancing, if you wanted to. I would go to other events at the Cathedral.
The Cathedral looks ordinarily from the outside, but surprised us with it's great beauty once inside, the modern stained glass is superb, the history is explained clearly but notices and leaflets and of course the brilliant guides who couldn't have been more welcoming and attentive. We loved our visit, and left inspired, uplifted.
