The museum holds important archaeological and historical artifacts inside its walls. The castle's galleries display ceramics, jewelry, glass, and textiles. The decorative art collection is the pride of the castle, so you might want to take extra time there. Norwich Castle Museum & Art Gallery Reviews
The castle is a grand building, the main hall is spectacular. The museum occupies most of the castle, there are half a dozen sections leading from a central entrance area. The special Viking Exhibitio... more »
Really interesting place to visit. Full of history. Fun to dress up as convict and take photos. Would be happy to go again, coffee shop very reasonably, good selection of snacks and cakes. more »
Amazing castle. The tour is recommended and the information is highly informative. By 2021 they will have fully restored all the missing rooms but still worth while going now as the museum is also full to the rafters with exhibits. You'll need several hours to get round and their is plenty for the kids to do. The cafe is superb and the shopping Mall afterwards is a very nice option. Highly recommended.
The Castle Mall car park is right next door to the Castle so parking is no problem. There are a few disabled parking spaces right outside the Castle but I'm not sure how you get to them. There is also a lift to avoid the steps in approaching the castle. Admission in August 2019 was £9.90 for adults and £8.50 for children aged 4-18 although family rates are available. The interior of the keep is spectacular but is about to change as floors are being added to take it back to how it was. When we were there in August 2019 there was an excellent exhibition on the Vikings but the exhibition on Boadicea and the Romans was also incredibly interesting. There are some excellent dioramas of Norfolk places and there were lots of hands on exhibits and activities for children. The cafe does very good coffee and cakes/sausage rolls etc.
