Shakespeare's Birthplace, Stratford-upon-Avon

The origin of a literary genius, Shakespeare's Birthplace was opened as a museum in the 1940s. Adjoining the house is the Shakespeare Center, where collections, documents, and the library are housed. This is also where you buy tickets and enter Shakespeare's house. The creators of the museum exhibit have lovingly restored the house to resemble what it may have looked like during Shakespeare's childhood. Inside are furnishings, the glove-making shop of John Shakespeare, and household items that look as if they were just laid down. Look for a window full of signatures, the names of people who have visited the house over the centuries. The garden has also been restored to what may have been its original state, and it makes for a pleasant stroll. • Fantastic place, building and sure, the best poet, playwright of the history! The staff was very welcoming, friendly and helpful. The 4 star is only for the lack of the ‘personal collection ‘ we could see. Come on, I need a slap... the best collections are in the theatres and cinemas and of course, libraries! I just missed something ‘original’, like a necklace or shirt... what he wore, hold with his two hands. Though it was a big honour to step on the same floor he did centuries ago.
  • It was wonderful to visit Shakespeare's birthplace and see so many authentic items from his time. The staff in each room were very helpful in answering questions and gave lots of interesting information. They were also very patient while we translated their answers for our students. The visit finished outside in the garden with a fantastic performance of famous speeches from Shakespeare's plays, and he even included some of the students in one extract with was very enjoyable.
