Warwick Castle, Warwick

3.8
In a country full of outstanding medieval fortresses, Warwick Castle is one of the most magnificent. Originally built by William the Conqueror in 1068, the castle today features imposing ramparts and towers looming over manicured green lawns and the Avon River. It also hosts a lively scene of historical interpreters reenacting medieval life. Check out the trebuchet, a giant catapult that interpreters have shot some 6,500 times since its introduction in 2005. Head down to the castle dungeon to meet a torturer, a judge, and the castle cook. Try to catch a free tour to learn about the defensive purposes of some of the castle's most prominent features. Exhibits and performances change constantly, so check the schedule before you visit. If you visit on a Saturday, consider staying into the evening for the extravagant Kingmaker's Medieval Banquet in the great hall. Make Warwick Castle a centerpiece of your Warwick vacation itinerary, and find what else is worth visiting using our Warwick tour planner.

  • You'll need a full day or more to see everything, even then there's probably something you've missed. Get the annual premium pass if you're thinking of going more than once in a year, it's well worth it.
  • A great historical castle. But I cant help but think Merlin are profiteering. So a child entry is under 11, so according to Mr or Mrs Merlin my kid 13 is an adult. Hardly family fun. Everything is extra, the dungeon, the classes. That said entertainers and actors are great. Good choice of food albeit the theme park burgers and pizzas. The annoying theme park music through the castle is not required, it's not a theme park. You can spend a day there with the shows but they are a bit theme park style. I just cant help think such a place should be in the hands of national trust rather than a theme park. A good day out but be prepared to pay for it...a bit like other theme parks you have to smile while you part with your hard earned cash. Oh and its 6 pound to park in the field.....
